H.3875 The Perinatal Integration Act (PIA) is back at the statehouse for a new session. If you recall, the bill made it through the Senate and almost through the House but ran out of time. We are here to push faster this session.

PIA requires hospitals and the Department of Public Health to give equal access to women using a midwife or birth center and also allows for the same consultation with specialists and educational opportunities already available to every other maternity provider in our state.

Warm hugs and big thanks to Rep. Craig Gagnon House District 11 and Luke Rankin for championing this bill.

Midwives need consumer voices at the statehouse during this new session. We'll need the support of smiling faces, big pregnant bellies, and babies and we might not always have much notice, so be prepared. Our first meeting is Thursday, February 6th at 9:30 in the Statehouse 1st-floor lobby. "Call The Midwife" attire is encouraged, but not required. We will pass out newsletters, ask our representatives to co-sponsor H.3875, and get an introduction from the House Balcony. THIS IS A FUN EVENT. Homeschoolers are very welcome; let's prepare future leaders.

You can also donate to help our cause. Every donation helps to make a difference for midwifery in SC.
